Helping my cousin, Ashley, to make her first cake

My cousin Ashley came over on Saturday to make her first decorated cake which was a gift for her boyfriend. Ashley's boyfriend enjoys taking motorbikes off road so we made a cake of a country road and hill with a motorbike. It was great fun working with Ashley and she did an awesome job with this cake! We filled the sponge cake hill with M&M's Flake, mint Aero and way too much chocolate butter icing. We created the decorations out of fondant and used piping gel for water, Lindt chocolate flakes for the dirt road and mashed aero for moss on the rocks.

I am definitely up for decorating cakes with someone else again!

My first attempt at food that is cake: The burger

My first attempt at food that is cake: The burger. The fun part of this cake was making minced up icing for the meat - not sure if you can see the fabulous minced fondant icing in the pic :(

Lesson learnt from this cake... breadrolls are not yellow, I will have to work on getting the colour right!

The cake I forgot to post

Photo

I made this cake back in April for Scott's brothers birthday, I forgot to post it up!

This was a sponge cake and a bit of fun with brightly coloured fondant.

Fail whale, roller derby & water birthday cakes for @ferrous, @trishwaH & @Nickstar_85

Birthday cakes for Trisha, Coralie and Nick. That was a late Thursday night getting these together for a Friday night combined birthday party. I also made vegan cupcakes to go with the 3 cakes.

Companion cube cake for @bboyle - this time WITH images

For anyone that has played Portal, I attempted a companion cube cake by request from @bboyle

The cake is 15cm square and covered in royal icing and gum paste was used to create the box. This was a challenge, and I am frustrated that I was unable to make the cake square, there is gaps between the pieces.

It was a fun challenge and I am glad I finally got it done!

Engagement cake for Matt and Jamie

2 Chocolate sponge cakes covered and decorated with fondant. As always, lettering was the challenge but I think the finish was ok. I am still keen to improve the fondant covering of the cake, it was not smooth at all.

Soccer cake for dad's birthday

Mum made the cake and I created the decorations for this soccer cake for dad's birthday. The downside to working together was that I hadn't seen the size of the cake when I made the decorations... MONSTER soccer players!!

The players are made with fondant and I held them together with toothpicks. The grass is royal icing. Unfortunately the players are to big to see, but the blue team (Tottenham) have scored a goal - I swear :P

Hopefully it doesn't fall apart before dinner tonight *fingers crossed* and happy birthday dad!

Lego cake for Danielle

Legocake

A friend Danielle (@dcunningham) had her birthday last week. Dan is known for her love of Lego and for her birthday present I decided to make a Lego cake.

I went with butter cupcakes with royal icing. The decoration is made from fondant.

The cupcakes were a lot of fun to make!

(I got the design from Google images)
